E-Verify is a joint venture between the Department of Homeland Security ("DHS"), the Social Security Administration ("SSA"), and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services ("CIS"). This new Internet-based program enables participating employers to authenticate the employment eligibility of their newly employed staff. E-Verify is available at no cost to the employer or employee. This service is the most efficient means of determining employment eligibility of recent hires and the authenticity of their Social Security Numbers to date. Innovative changes will take place later this month, as E-Verify plans to launch a new photo screening tool.
